Find white text in a PDF
White text on a white background cannot be seen on screen. Get a copy of your PDF where everything white is visible and marked up, with an overprint warning. Free and online.
A client sends a PDF and the page looks empty. The text is there — it is white, set on a white background, the same colour as the paper. Upload the file and you get a review copy with the page dimmed and every white element drawn back on top: white type, white shapes, near-white images and white spot colours. Pages using overprint are flagged too, because white text set to overprint disappears completely in print.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why can't I see the text already?
- Because it is white and sitting on a white background. It is there — it just matches the paper. We lay a dark tone over the page and redraw the white content on top of it, so you can read it.
- Does this change my file?
- No. You get a copy for review. The original is untouched, and the copy is not meant for print — it is for looking at.
- What does the overprint warning mean?
- White text with overprint switched on disappears entirely in the RIP. It can look right on screen but never prints. That is a classic cause of a reprint, so we mark the pages where overprint is in use.
- Can white text be deliberate?
- Often, yes. White is used for white ink, foil, spot varnish and knockouts. The point is not to remove it, but to let you see that it is there and what it says.
- Do you find white shapes and images too?
- Yes. White filled shapes, white strokes and images that are almost entirely white are marked as well. A full-page white background is named as such rather than flagged as hidden content.
- What about white spot colours?
- Separations named White, Hvid or similar are found too — a real white ink on its own plate.
- How many pages can you handle?
- Up to 400 pages per file. Split anything larger so the review copy stays workable.
- Why is near-white a problem as well?
- After a colour conversion, pure white often lands on 254 or 252 rather than 255. That is just as invisible on screen, so the normal setting includes it.
- Is my file stored?
- No. The file is processed on servers in the Nordics and deleted automatically within 24 hours. You get a certificate of deletion.
